WASHINGTON - The lightweight boats for the Georgetown women's rowing team traveled north this past weekend, competing against Radcliffe on the Charles River in Boston at the Class of 2004 Regatta. Racing was held in cold conditions with a stiff 10-12 MPH headwind.
The Hoyas' eight boat finished second to the squad from Radcliffe, crossing the finish line in a time of 8:05.2. The Blue & Gray boat was rowed by coxswain Margaret Rush (Fort Washington, Pa./Mount St. Joseph), Clare Southern (Los Gatos, Calif./Presentation), Ruth Speidel (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), Camilla Spielman (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Montica), Sarah Arcos (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Polytech), Monica Brady (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos), Mary Walton (Jacksonville, Fla./St. Paul's), Natalia Keohane (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatious) and Ashley Zimmerman (Wantage, N.J./Blair Academy).
Georgetown's four boat finished in a time of 9:21.0, behind Radcliffe's top three crews. The boat consisted of coxswain Georgia Williams (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), Susanna Rademacher (Wellesley, Mass./Phillips Andover), Breanne Kincaid (Camarillo, Calif./Newbury Park), Catherine Sandstrom (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham) and Nora Rosati (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto).
"This weekend was an incredible learning experience for our lightweight team," Head Coach Miranda Paris said. "With such a young group of athletes, every time we line up, we learn. It helps us realize the work that lies in front of us. My assistant coaches and I are very excited about the groundwork this team is laying for the future."
The Hoyas' openweight boats will compete in the George Washington Invitational this weekend.
