As a team, Georgetown hit at a .305 clip and had nine service aces.
The Hoyas (5-3) scored the first seven points of the match, led by two kills by Williams, a kill and a service ace by Saar and a kill from Cannon. Following a point by Presbyterian (3-6), a block by Shannon Ellis (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) and Williams, as well as an error by the Blue Hose extended GU's lead to 9-1. The Hoyas maintained the sizeable lead until another ace by Saar won the set, 25-17.
After both teams traded points to start the second set, a 6-2 run by Georgetown gave the Blue & Gray an 8-4 lead. Single kills from Williams and Ellis and an ace by Simpson fueled the run. Presbyterian closed to within two at 10-8, but a 5-2 run extended the lead to 15-10 for the Hoyas. White scored three-consecutive points on a kill and back-to-back service aces and Johnson and Saar each contributed kills. Presbyterian cut the gap, closing to within one at 24-23, but another kill from Saar closed the set 25-23.
The third set started out with Presbyterian in control, taking a 13-2 lead. However, for a second-straight match, the Hoyas mounted an astonishing comeback. Williams had four kills, Saar, White and Cannon each had two kills and Cannon and White each contributed three blocks as the Hoyas fought back for a 26-24, match-clinching victory.
"We came out hard and were good from the service line," said Georgetown Head Coach Arlisa Williams. "We followed that up with big swings - Ashlie Williams was very good again - and a great defensive effort, led by MacKenzie (Simpson). The players showed true Hoya Grit and I am proud of how we finished the second and third sets."
The Hoyas return to Washington, D.C. for a midweek match at George Washington on Tuesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. The Blue & Gray will head out west next weekend for the Fullerton Classic where GU will play UCLA, Cal State Fullerton and Yale.
