Sept. 5, 2014 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's golf program will open its fall schedule at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Md., as part of the 10-team Navy Fall Classic. First tee times for the two-round tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6.
The Hoyas join a field scheduled to include two teams from host school Navy, as well as defending tournament champion Towson. Also competing will be Brown, Cornell, Delaware, Saint Joseph's, Seton Hall and Villanova.
"This weekend we open our fall season at The US Naval Academy Intercollegiate - always a great event," Hunter said. "The golf course is short, but very challenging - seems as if every green is on a plateau and the fairways are very undulating. Careful course management is necessary to score. We are excited to get the season started."
The Hoyas will take a youthful lineup to the challenging par-71 course. Senior captain Greg Podufal (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), a returning All-BIG EAST Men's Golf selection, provides experience in a lineup featuring one sophomore and three freshmen. Sophomore Austin Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) brings the only other collegiate experience, while freshmen Cole Berman (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School), Sam Madsen (Madison, Wis./Edgewood/Cardinal Gibbons (Fla.) ) and Jack Musgrave (Chesterton, Ind./Andrean) will all make their debut in Blue & Gray.
Hunter's Hoyas last won the Navy Fall Classic in 2003, when current PGA Tour professional Billy Hurley III of Navy won the individual championship. GU's last individual champion was John Berg in 1992.
