WASHINGTON - The No. 9 Georgetown University men's soccer team defeated the University of Wisconsin Badgers (1-3-0), 4-1, on Sunday at Shaw Field. Georgetown used a big first-half effort to improve to 2-0-2 on the season.

"I was really pleased with the game today, the team started both halves terrifically well and goals came from that," said Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese. "If you look at the first half going back to some of the things we've talked about over the past few weeks, I think the team did a wonderful job adjusting and looked much more dangerous, much more dynamic. We were creating a lot of good chances today and had some great goals."

The Hoyas dominated possession early on and quickly found the back of the net scoring in the fifth minute.

Senior midfielder Austin Martz (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) found junior defender Keegan Rosenberry (Ronks, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) on the overlap. Rosenberry hit it to the near post and junior forward Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph's) flicked it past the keeper to make it 1-0.

The Hoya defense wasn't tested for the first 20 minutes as Georgetown worked the ball side to side looking for an opportunity to attack.

The second goal came less than a minute after junior midfielder Melvin Snoh (Coatesville, Pa./Malvern Prep) entered the game. Allen lofted the ball across the box to the far post and an awaiting Snoh confidently fired it in to give the Blue & Gray the two-goal lead.

Snoh again made his mark assisting on a goal in the 34th minute. He found sophomore forward Alex Muyl (New York, N.Y./Bard) at the top of the box. Muyl had a brilliant first touch moving right and fired back to the left post as the Hoyas took a 3-0 advantage.

Wisconsin's best chance of the first half came with five minutes to go in the half as senior goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) came off of his line to collect the ball and keep it scoreless.

Georgetown went into the break with a 3-0 lead.

Less than 30 seconds into the second, Muyl tallied his second goal of the game. Allen took that ball all the way to the endline through traffic and passed it back to Muyl in the middle of the box who went right into the net as the Blue & Gray took over right where they left off.

As different Hoyas shifted in and out of the game, the level of play stayed high as GU dominated on offense. In the 66th minute, a foul in the run of play resulted in a Badger penalty kick. Drew Connor connected to spoil the clean sheet and put UW on the board.

Wisconsin had late opportunities, but Georgetown was solid down the stretch resulting in the 4-1 final.

The Blue & Gray outshot the Badgers, 21-7, and took nine corner kicks while UW attempted none. Gomez took the win in the net with two saves, while Adrian Remeniuk had three saves and took the loss despite only playing in the first half.

The Hoyas will continue their homestand on Thursday as the team hosts the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams at 4 p.m., at Shaw Field. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
