Jan. 15, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (4-13, 2-3 BIG EAST) will travel to a pair of BIG EAST Conference foes this weekend. The Hoyas face the Xavier University Musketeers (11-6, 3-3 BIG EAST) in Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday at 7 p.m. On Sunday, GU will travel to Butler University to take on the Bulldogs (8-9, 4-2 BIG EAST) in a 1 p.m., matchup. Both games will have video and live stats available at www.GUHoyas.com.
Last week, the Hoyas went 1-1. Additionally, freshman guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the second-consecutive week.
Adomako continued to prove her BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year nod was no fluke with another solid weekend of play. The Georgetown rookie averaged 12.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 2.5 spg while shooting over 40.0 percent, leading the Hoyas to a 1-1 mark.
Adomako has flourished in conference play, ranking fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring (16.2) and sixth in rebounding (7.8), with both figures the best among the freshman class. She also leads the conference in overall double-doubles with 6.0 for the season and second among freshmen for double-doubles in the nation.
Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg and has posted a squad-high 7.5 rpg. Junior forward Dominique Vitalis (Bloomfield, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) is second with 9.7 ppg as well as 6.8 rpg and junior guard Katie McCormick (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) rounds out the top three with 9.2 ppg.
Georgetown holds a +3.2 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 36.6 percent on the season.
Xavier dropped an 84-61 contest at DePaul on Sunday afternoon at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Despite nearly doubling their scoring output from the first half in the second period, the Musketeers could not overcome a season-high 29 turnovers - including 18 in the first half. XU shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the second stanza, but the Blue Demons scored 29 points off of turnovers.
Raeshaun Gaffney scored a team-high 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while Briana Glover finished with 11. Maleeka Kynard added eight points and a team-high five assists.
The Hoyas are 2-2 all-time against the Musketeers winning the last two meetings including a 66-58 victory at home during the 2013-14 regular season and a 56-37 win in the first round of last year's BIG EAST Tournament. However, Georgetown has not won at Xavier with a 85-68 loss in the first conference meeting between the squads.
Loryn Goodwin scored 26 points and Ijeoma Uchendu added 23 on Sunday afternoon as Butler defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles 76-67. Butler ended the first half on a 7-0 run to take the lead and would never look back as they went on to record their fourth-straight win of the season.
Goodwin shot 9-of-14 from the field to score her game-high 26 points. She played all 40 minutes on Sunday stuffing the box score with five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Butler rounded out the scoring total with 10 points from Belle Obert, nine from Blaire Langlois, six from Syndey Buck and two from Andriana Moore. Obert added six rebounds and a team-high three blocks while Langlois and Buck combined for all five Butler 3-pointers.
Georgetown is 1-1 all-time against Butler with both meetings coming a season ago. Georgetown won at home, 85-79, but fell to the Bulldogs, 67-59, in Indiana.
Friday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and Sunday's is slated for 1 p.m. Video and live stats will be available for both contests at www.GUHoyas.com.
