WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) was selected by the Columbus Crew with the 18th pick of the third round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft presented by Adidas on Tuesday afternoon. He was the 60th pick overall in the draft.

Columbus acquired the pick from the Seattle Sounders as part of a 2013 trade.

"I think this is a terrific opportunity for Tomas and we're really excited for him," said Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese. "He worked hard to graduate in December and he's got a bright future both on the pitch and beyond."

Gomez was named Second Team All-Great Lakes Region and Second Team All-BIG EAST after a solid senior season. He had 10 shutouts on the year as well as 54 saves and a 0.61 GAA. He ranked 11th in the nation in GAA and second in the BIG EAST Conference. As a team, the Hoyas finished eighth in the nation in GAA.

In his career, he was named All-BIG EAST three times, the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, earned three nods to the all-region squad and a spot on the 2012 College Cup All-Tournament Team. He is the program's all-time leader in career shutouts with 36 and season shutouts with 12.0 in 2013 and 10.0 in 2014.

Gomez also spent time with the U-20 Men's National Team pool in his time on the Hilltop.

Currently, Georgetown had 21 total players drafted into the professional ranks and 13 drafted into the MLS.

Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese has now had eight players drafted into the MLS in four separate drafts. Ricky Schramm was drafted in the third round in 2007, four players were drafted in 2013, Steve Neumann was the fourth overall pick last season and Joey Dillon followed him in the third round.
