Georgetown Falls at DePaul

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (4-18, 2-8 BIG EAST) couldn't find an answer as the squad fell to the DePaul University Blue Demons (16-6, 8-2 BIG EAST), 93-52, on Friday at McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago, Ill. DePaul jumped out to an early lead and Georgetown never managed to recover.

Freshman guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) was the lone Hoya in double figures with 20 points in the contest. She posted her seventh double-double of the season with a squad-best 10 rebounds. Junior forward Dominique Vitalis (Bloomfield, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) added four points and 10 boards for the Blue & Gray.

Georgetown outrebounded DePaul, 52-40, but allowed 45.5 percent (35-for-77) shooting while hitting just 33.3 percent (21-for-63) from the field. The difference really came in the Blue & Gray's 33 turnovers to the Blue Demons' 11.

DePaul's full-court press set the pace early as the Hoyas threw up transition shots, and the Blue Demons countered with shots from downtown to make it 9-0. Vitalis finally hit the first bucket of the game down low, but DePaul kept pressuring to make it an 11-point game just five minutes in.

Georgetown struggled to find a rhythm and DePaul kept shooting to go up by as much as 17 in the first eight minutes. However, a slash through the lane from freshman guard DiDi Burton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College Prep) and a 3-pointer by junior guard Brittany Horne (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) cut it to 12 as the Blue & Gray began to battle back.

The Hoyas wouldn't get any closer in the first as the squad went cold due to a pesky Blue Demon press and DePaul continued to hit from long range, building the lead to as much as 30.

Georgetown showed some signs of life late in the half, but it wasn't enough to make a significant cut as GU went into the break trailing, 48-20. The Hoyas outrebounded the Blue Demons, 30-21, but committed 22 turnovers and allowed 10 DePaul 3-pointers.

Adomako began to hit in the second scoring GU's first eight points, but DePaul couldn't be stopped as the squad continued to build the lead. Georgetown never really had a chance to get back in it, eventually falling, 93-52.

The Hoyas will continue their road trip on Sunday at Marquette University. Fans can log onto the BIG EAST Digital Network to view the game online for free. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET and live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
