WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team defeated James Madison University on Saturday afternoon, 4-3, to pick up its third-straight win of the spring season. It was a role reversal of sorts as the last time the two teams faced off, on March 28 of 2014, the Dukes were the victors by a final of 4-3.
The Blue & Gray picked up three wins in singles play and won two out of three of the matches in doubles to take the meeting from the Dukes.
Sophomore Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyseey Charter School), who had strong performances against both Norfolk State and Campbell at the 4-1 Invitational hosted by VCU from Jan. 23-24, replicated her effort playing from the No. 1 singles spot as she defeated Taylor Pinchoff in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) fought back after dropping the first set, and took down Dylan Owens in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(6), from the No. 4 slot. Freshman Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) picked up her first singles win of the spring when she triumphed over Emily Bradshaw, 6-0, 7-6(3), from the No. 6 spot.
In doubles play, the duo of Koenen and Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) defeated Sarah Khan and Rebecca Harris 7-5, playing from the No. 1 doubles position. Marx paired with Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) in the No. 3 spot and captured the win for the Hoyas as they triumphed over Emily Bradshaw and Dylan Owens 7-6(5).
The Hoyas will hit the road and travel to New York to face conference opponents St. John's and Seton Hall on Jan. 6 and 8, respectively.
