WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University sailing team received its new fleet of 27 boats on Friday. It was the single largest order of new boats that had ever been purchased in program history.

"I am deeply humbled by the generosity of the Georgetown sailing community," Head Sailing Coach Michael J. Callahan said. "In particular, the members of the Georgetown University Board of Regents who were instrumental in making this day happen. This is truly a historic achievement for the Georgetown sailing program."

The Hoyas now have 18 FJs, six 420s, three Lasers and 27 brand new dollies. The new fleet will be an essential part of Georgetown's commitment to continued success in the sport.

"We can't underestimate how important this is for the future of Georgetown sailing," Callahan added. "Having new boats is essential to doing well in regattas, running good practices and attracting the top sailors to the Hilltop."

The Hoyas open the spring season on February 21-22, splitting sites at the College of Charleston Spring Intersectional in Charleston, S.C., and the Quad Meet at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
