Jan. 5, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University sailing team, tied for No. 1 in the Sailing World College Rankings, officially ended the fall season by winning the 30th Anniversary Rose Bowl Regatta, held in Long Beach, Calif., last weekend. Utilizing the foursome of AJ Reiter (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma), Isabelle Luzuriaga (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall), Katia DaSilva (East Greenwich, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) and Nevin Snow (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic), the Hoyas successfully defended their Rose Bowl Regatta title from 2014.
The Hoyas competed against 29 teams in the largest collegiate event on the West Coast. The Blue & Gray's team boasts a lot of talent from the West Coast and the starting A and B division skippers Snow and Reiter are both from San Diego. DaSilva crewed the A division while Luzuriaga handled the B division.
The regatta was sailed out of the US Sailing Center and Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach. The races were held off of Belmont Pier. The conditions were cold by West Coast standards but ideal for sailing a winter regatta.
The Hoyas started off quickly, developing a lead they would never relinquish. In the A division, Snow and DaSilva won the first five races in a row en route to a 12-point win overall. In the B division, Reiter and Luzuriaga won the first race and went on to win the B division by 12 points as well. Overall, the Hoyas cruised to a 37-point win over second-place Coast Guard Academy with Boston College finishing third, 51 points back.
The Hoyas open the spring season on February 21-22, splitting sites at the College of Charleston Spring Intersectional in Charleston, S.C., and the Quad Meet at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
