Gomez Invited to 2015 adidas MLS Player Combine

Jan. 7, 2015

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer player Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) received an invitation to the 2015 adidas Major League Soccer Player Combine which begins on Thursday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was among 55 college seniors to be invited to the event.

Gomez was named Second Team All-Great Lakes Region and Second Team All-BIG EAST after a solid senior season. He had 10 shutouts on the year as well as 54 saves and a 0.61 GAA. He ranked 11th in the nation in GAA and second in the BIG EAST Conference. As a team, the Hoyas finished eighth in the nation in GAA.

In his career, he was named All-BIG EAST three times, the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, earned three nods to the all-region squad and a spot on the 2012 College Cup All-Tournament Team. He is the program's all-time leader in career shutouts with 36 and season shutouts with 12.0 in 2013 and 10.0 in 2014.

Georgetown has had players selected in the MLS Draft for two consecutive years under Head Coach Brian Wiese. Last year, Steve Neumann was the fourth overall pick in the draft and Joey Dillon was selected in the third round.

In 2013, the Hoyas had three players invited to the combine and all three were selected in the MLS SuperDraft. Ian Christianson, Tommy Muller and Jimmy Nealis all received the invite. It was the most in program history and the first under Wiese. A fourth, Andy Riemer, was picked up in the MLS Supplemental Draft.

Prior to 2013, Georgetown has only had one other player in program history invited to the combine. Dan Gargan participated following the 2004 collegiate season. Gargan was a member of the 2014 MLS Champions, the LA Galaxy.

The 2015 adidas MLS Player Combine will be held at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., prior to the SuperDraft. The invited players will be divided into four separate teams that are led by prominent collegiate coaches and select youth coaches. Matches will be played as doubleheaders over three days.

The coaching staffs from all 20 MLS teams will be on hand to scout talent for the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, scheduled to take place on Thursday, Jan. 15, in Philadelphia.
