Oct. 19, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's rowing team sent its top openweight 4+ boat to compete at the 51st Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) this past weekend. Racing against some of the best crews from around the world, the Hoyas placed14th overall in the Women's Championship 4+ on the Charles River in Boston.
In the 4,800-meter event, GU crossed the finish line in 19:29.680 to place 14th out of 19 entries and was 11th out of collegiate crews. Battling brisk and windy conditions, the Hoyas were able to maintain their ideal tempo throughout the race, finishing two seconds ahead of a boat from Rhode Island and more than 30 seconds in front of Patriot League-rival Boston University.
The Blue & Gray used a lineup of coxswain Beth Weinrich (Willow Grove, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy), Savannah Kochinke (San Francisco, Calif./The Lawrenceville School [N.J.]), Christina Johnson (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow), Margaret Dunne (Larchmont, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart) and Natalie Clark (Wilton, Conn./Wilton). The lineup was selected from the top four times via erg racing.
"The Charles is a tough winding course and it was a real test of the entire group," Georgetown Head Coach Stephen Full said. "I think that the girls did a pretty good job with the rhythm that we are building. Overall, I was pleased with how we did."
