Neither team could pull away in the third set until St. John's used back-to-back points to take a 16-13 lead. After both sides traded points, consecutive kills from Saar and Speech pulled the Hoyas to within one, 18-17, and forced a St. John's timeout. Out of the break, the Red Storm scored three-straight points to take control, 21-17. An ace by Alexandra Rivera (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fort Hamilton) and kill from McKnight cut the deficit to two, 23-21, but St. John's scored two of the next three points to win the set, 25-22, and take the match.
