Top-Seeded Hoyas Host Creighton in BIG EAST Championship

Nov. 14, 2015

WASHINGTON - The No. 3/3, and top-seeded, Georgetown University men's soccer squad will host the No. 5/6, and second-seeded, Creighton University Bluejays (17-2-0) in the BIG EAST Championship Game Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., at Shaw Field. The Hoyas are currently 14-2-2 on the season.

The game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 2 with Mark Rogondino calling the action and Brian Dunseth on color commentary. Fans can tune in to FOX Sports 2 or watch online through FOX Sports Go with a valid cable login.

With a 1-0 victory over fourth-seeded Xavier University on Thursday, the Hoyas advanced to the final for the fifth time in program history. Senior forward Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph) scored the game winner in the 16th minute on a pass from junior midfielder Bakie Goodman (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View School for the Gifted). It was GU's eighth shutout of the season.

Georgetown is on a program-record 15-game unbeaten streak and has broken the record for consecutive wins with 12. Earlier this year, the Blue & Gray posted six-consecutive shutouts for a program record and has a total of seven on the season.

On Monday, senior defender Cole Seiler (Anderson, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal School) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts last week. Additionally, senior defender Keegan Rosenberry (Ronks, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. They were the final weekly awards for the 2015 season.

Seiler scored the game-winning goal in Georgetown's regular season victory over Creighton on a header in the 83rd minute. Seiler and the Hoya defense also held the Bluejays to three shots on goal, the lowest for Creighton this season.

Rosenberry had a hand in both goals in the Creighton victory assisting on both for the Blue & Gray. He was also part of the outstanding defensive effort against one of the most potent offensive teams in the country.

Allen leads the team in scoring with 27 points on a team-high 10 goals as well as seven assists. Junior forward Alex Muyl (New York, N.Y./Bard) is second with four goals and a squad-best nine assists for 17 points. Sophomore midfielder Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) rounds out the top three with 14 points on five goals and four assists for the year. Freshman goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) has been impressive in the net with 53 saves to his credit over 18 games as well as eight shutouts.

After receiving a first-round bye, the Bluejays defeated sixth-seeded Providence, 2-1, in Omaha on Thursday in a semifinal match. Joel Rydstrand scored the first goal, and Fabian Herbers connected on a penalty kick for the game winner in the 67th minute.

The Hoyas are 2-2-1 all-time against the Bluejays with a mark of 1-1-1 at home.

In the regular season meeting last week, GU managed a 2-1 victory over then-No. 3/2 Creighton. The Hoyas capped off an undefeated conference season earning the No. 1 overall seed in the conference tournament. It is the fifth time in program history that the Hoyas have won the regular season championship with the last coming in 2013 and the last outright championship coming during the 2010 campaign. It is the fourth under Head Coach Brian Wiese. The last time a team went a perfect 9-0-0 during the BIG EAST Regular Season was the University of Louisville in 2009.

The top-seeded Hoyas are 12-19-5 overall in the BIG EAST Tournament and 6-1-1 at home, but 0-4 in the championship game. This will be the first meeting between the squads in postseason play.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., at Shaw Field. Live stats will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.

The game will be broadcast on FOX Sports 2. To watch, download the FOX Sports GO app for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire tablets and phones and select Windows devices to view BIG EAST Digital Network games on-the-go. The FOX Sports GO platform can also be accessed at FOXSportsGO.com on desktops.

Tickets will be available at the main gate. Students from the two participating schools are free with a valid student ID.
