Nov. 2, 2015 WASHINGTON - No. 7/6 Georgetown University men's senior Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts over the weekend. Additionally, he was named the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Player of the Week. The Hoyas are currently 12-2-2 on the season and 8-0-0 in BIG EAST Conference play, sitting alone in first place with one game remaining in the regular season.
The team clinched a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship on Saturday marking the fifth in program history and the fourth under Head Coach Brian Wiese. Additionally, the Blue & Gray continued a 13-game unbeaten streak which is a new program record, and set a new program record for consecutive wins with 10.
Allen led the BIG EAST in goals, and tied for first in points with three goals for six points in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas. All three of Allen's goals came at key moments for Georgetown as the Hoyas had to fight back for both wins. Against Seton Hall on Thursday, Allen connected on the penalty kick in the 83rd minute to send the game to overtime. Allen then scored the golden goal in the 96th minute for the win. At Villanova on Saturday, Allen's heroics helped Georgetown maintain an undefeated slate in league play as he netted the game winner in the 74th minute.
This is Allen's second BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honor this season, he has also been named to the honor roll twice. It marks the fourth BIG EAST award in his career. The forward was on the CollegeSoccerNew.com Team of the Week on Sept. 14, but this is his first national player of the week honor.
Georgetown will host No. 1/2 Creighton University on Thursday in the regular-season finale and senior day at Shaw Field. The game will decide the top two seeds in the BIG EAST Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action.
