Nov. 2, 2015 WASHINGTON - Senior Lauren Saar (Richland, Mich./Plainwell) of the Georgetown University volleyball team has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. The award recognized Saar's performance in Georgetown's two road matches over the weekend.
Saar averaged 2.75 kills per set and 1.75 digs per set in GU's 1-1 weekend at Seton Hall and Villanova. In Friday's thrilling 3-2 win over Seton Hall, Saar recorded her fifth double-double of the season, and 27th of her career, with 13 kills and 15 digs. The 15 kills tied a season high for Saar and she also set a new career high with five assists. Against Villanova on Saturday, Saar tied for team-high honors with seven kills.
She now sits at 980 career digs, just 20 away from joining a select few in program history to record 1,000 career digs.
Monday was Saar's first selection to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this season and fourth of her career. It is Georgetown's fifth award of the season. Last week, Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) also earned a nod to the honor roll and Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) was selected last month. Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) earned consecutive selections in September.
The Hoyas (10-16, 4-9 BIG EAST ) will remain on the road this weekend for matches at DePaul (Friday, 8 p.m. ET) and Marquette (Saturday, 8 p.m. ET).
