Dec. 21, 2015 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer senior forward Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph) continued his career today signing a Homegrown Player Contract with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer (MLS). Allen will now remove his name from the draft and is officially a member of the Red Bulls.
"I'm very excited," said Allen. "I've waited a long time for this, all my life, but I enjoyed my college career and a lot of my success came from my teammates and my senior class was a big part of my success so I want to thank them. I'm very excited to get started here at the Red Bulls."
Allen became GU's first-ever MAC Hermann Trophy finalist two weeks ago as one of three players up for the top honor in college soccer as well as named First Team All-America. He was also a unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST honoree this season. It marked his fourth-consecutive All-BIG EAST honor and his third-consecutive nod to the first team. Allen had 15 points on six goals and three assists in conference play as well as four game winners. Overall, he led the team in scoring with 12 goals and seven assists for 31 points. He was seventh in the nation in total points and 10th in the country in game winners.
In his career, he had three-consecutive All-America honors, and four all-region selections.
With a goal against Hofstra University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Allen tallied his 50th-career goal making him the all-time goal leader in Georgetown program history.
Earlier this season, he was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Preseason All-BIG EAST and to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Preseason Best XI First Team. He was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions and to the honor roll twice as well as earning CollegeSoccerNews.com National Player of the Week honors.
The Homegrown Player Rule is a program that allows MLS teams to sign local players from their own development academies directly to MLS first team rosters. To place a player on its Homegrown List, players must have resided in that club's home territory and participated in the club's youth development system for at least one year, as well as meeting other unspecified league requirements.
Prior to Georgetown, Allen played for the Red Bulls Academy, and led the team with 28 goals in 24 games as a U-18. He has also represented the United States at youth international levels. Allen is the younger brother of current New York City FC defender RJ Allen.
Allen is the first player in GU program history to sign a Homegrown Contract. Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese has now had 10 players be drafted or sign with an MLS club in his tenure on the Hilltop.
