The teams traded baskets for most of the first quarter until a jumper from Yazmine Belk (Queens, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) and layup by Woodard gave Georgetown a 14-11 lead with just over a minute left.
The Bulldogs, however, answered by scoring the final five points of the quarter to take a 16-14 lead after the first period.
Butler's offense came out on fire in the second quarter, opening up a 13-point lead with 1:15 left before halftime. GU showed life in the final minute, scoring the final six points of the half. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 16, 65-49, by the end of the third quarter.
Georgetown had a valiant comeback effort in the fourth quarter, outscoring Butler, 27-17, in the stanza to get back into the game. White scored 10 points in the frame, including seven-straight early on as GU began chipping away. A 3-pointer from Tyshell King (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) and a layup from Woodard brought the Hoyas to within single digits, 76-67, with 2:23 remaining.
After the Bulldogs extended their lead back to 80-67 with 48 seconds left, Georgetown came right back with seven points in a span of nine seconds. White hit a 3-pointer to bring the score to 80-70 and, after a GU timeout, DiDi Burton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College Prep) stole the inbounds pass and put up a layup. An offensive foul on the ensuing inbounds gave the ball back to the Hoyas and King hit a jumper to cut the deficit to six, 80-74, with 32 seconds remaining.
Butler, however, was able to inbound the ball after a timeout and hit 2-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the game.
