WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's tennis squad dropped a meeting against BIG EAST foe St. John's on Friday morning, 6-1, in New York, N.Y.
Georgetown picked up its sole win in singles play when Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) defeated Stephanie Elgegren, 6-2, 6-3, from the No. 4 spot.
Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) fell to Anastasia Polyajova in three tightly contested sets, 7-6 (13), 3-6, 11-9, from the No. 1 spot.
Sophia Barnard (Mill Neck, N.Y./Portledge School) fell to Anna Morozova, 6-4, 6-2, from the No. 2 slot. Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) was taken down by Natalie Vavulina, 6-2, 6-1. Playing from the No. 5 spot, Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) suffered a loss at the hands of Zofia Stanisz, 6-0, 6-2.
Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) was part of another tightly contested three-set match, but she ultimately fell, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7, to Irina Preotescu.
In doubles play, the team of Saperstein/Barnard was defeated, 6-3, by the Morozova/Vavulina duo. Marx and De Chatellus were unable to compete with the team of Stanisz and Jaide Collins, 6-0. The Koenen/Panarese duo was unable to finish their match with Polyakova/Elgeren resulting in 3-3 tie.
The Blue & Gray women have a day of rest before traveling to Morristown, N.J. to face Seton Hall on Sunday.
