Georgetown Defeats George Washington in Sunday Showdown

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's tennis team bounced back from a loss at the hands of St. John's on Feb. 6, and emerged victorious, 4-1, over crosstown rival George Washington on Sunday evening. The teams squared off in Yates Field House on the campus of Georgetown University.

GU swept singles play as it racked up four wins over the course of the afternoon.

Sophomore Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) continued her stellar play for the Hoyas from the No. 1 singles spot as she defeated Teodora Radosavljevic, 6-4, 6-3. Junior Liselot Koenen was also victorious for the Blue & Gray from the No. 4 slot as she defeated Taylor Nederlander in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.

Daphne De Chattelus picked up the fourth singles point for Georgetown as she was triumphant over Egle Jakuciunaite, 6-1, 6-4.

Sophia Barnard (Mill Neck, N.Y./Portledge School) and Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) played for GU in the No. 3 and No. 6 spots, respectively, but both their matches went unfinished.

The Colonials picked up their only point of the evening from the No. 2 spot as Marie-Louise Decamps defeated Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy), 6-0, 6-2.

Georgetown took the doubles point from GW as well with wins from the No. 1 and No. 3 teams.

Koenen and Panarese defeated Nederlander and Allison Hensen, 6-4; while the duo of Saperstein and Perz was triumphant over Marie-Louise Decamps and Lana Robins, 7-6(5).

The No. 3 doubles team of Barnard and Marx fell to Grace Egger and Radosavljevic, 6-4.

Georgetown has a quick turnaround as they face off against Towson on Feb. 18 at noon against Towson in Arlington, Va.
