WASHINGTON - The openweight squad for the Georgetown women's rowing team competed at the George Washington Invitational last weekend, placing fifth. The Hoyas competed against Patriot League-rival Navy on Friday afternoon before Dayton and Saint Joseph's on Saturday. Racing took place on the Potomac River.

"The results from the weekend are certainly going to focus our movements going forward," Georgetown Head Coach Miranda Paris said. "We want to build on what was good and keep working to find our optimal speed. We made some changes that may or may not have helped us, but we'll keep pushing forward. This was a good check-in for the team as a whole on our end-of-season goals."

Against a tough Navy crew on Friday, the Hoyas dropped all three races. The varsity four crossed the finish line in a time of 8:09.7 while the second varsity eight finished in 7:05.5. The varsity eight boat broke the seven-minute mark, crossing the finish line at 6:52.6.

On Saturday morning, the Blue & Gray took on Dayton and significantly improved its times on all three events. The second varsity crew pulled out the first victory of the weekend for the Hoyas, crossing the finish line in 6:48.8 to easily defeat its Dayton counterpart by nearly 37 seconds. The varsity four cut six seconds from its Friday time, finishing in 8:03.4, just nine seconds behind Dayton's boat. GU's varsity eight had its best race of the weekend, crossing at 6:33.6, just one second behind the Flyers.

The weekend concluded with a trifecta of races against Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon. The Hoyas' second varsity eight won its second race of the day, beating both the Hawks' second and third varsity crews with a time of 6:39.7. The varsity four took an additional eight seconds off its time from the morning races, finishing in 7:55 while the varsity eight crossed the finish line in 6:35.6, both good for second place.

Georgetown will return to the Potomac River on Saturday, April 25 for the Class of 2006 Cup versus Princeton.
