Keefe, Schmeiser Named to All-Patriot League Rowing Teams

May 19, 2015

WASHINGTON - Two members of the Georgetown women's rowing team have been named to All-Patriot League Rowing teams, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Senior Meaghan Keefe (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) was selected to the All-Patriot League First Team and senior Keara Schmeiser (Leonardtown,Md./St. Mary's Ryken) earned a spot on the second team.

Keefe and Schmeiser have both been consistent members of the Hoyas' varsity eight boat, with Keefe rowing in the bow seat for much of the spring and Schmeiser rowing in the sixth seat. With their help, GU retained both the 2006 Cup, with wins over North Carolina and West Virginia, as well as the Georges Cup, by virtue of defeating George Mason and George Washington on the Potomac. The Hoyas also had a strong showing at the EAWRC Sprints and took fifth place at the 2015 Patriot League Championships.

In the fall, Georgetown placed 24th out of 34 crews in a very competitive Championships Eights race at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. Against some of the best competition in the world, including four international boats, the Hoyas finished less than 40 seconds out of the top 10.

The Hoyas, who placed fifth overall at the 2015 Patriot League Championships on Friday, will close out the 2015 season by sending two crews, the lightweight varsity eight and varsity four crews, to the IRA National Championships on Mercer Lake, N.J., May 29-31.
