July 29, 2015 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University junior women's tennis player Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) had a successful run at the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circuit, July 24-27, in Los Angeles, Calif. The event was presented by the United States Tennis Association.
Saperstein advanced to the finals with an impressive run, winning five matches over four days.
"It's great to see so many of our players out there on the summer circuit," said Georgetown Head Coach Gordie Ernst. "I met with both teams after the season and we all talked about how preparing for next year's Big East Tournament starts in the summer. The summer time away from the pressures of academics is where a tennis player can get better."
Saperstein, unseeded entering the event, defeated Taylor Heath 6-1, 6-2 to open the tournament before downing Natalie Etchegaray 7-5, 6-1 in the second round. On Sunday, she beat Anastasiya Joyner by a score of 6-0, 6-3 and closed out the day with a tight 7-6 (6), 7-5 victory over Nikki Newell in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Saperstein won by default due to injury to top-seeded Annette Goulak, setting up the championship match. Later that day, Saperstein couldn't find the answer against second-seeded Zoe Katz, falling 6-2, 6-0.
Last year, Saperstein went 12-4 overall with a record of 11-3 from the No. 1 singles position to lead the Hoyas in wins. Prior to Georgetown's season-ending loss to Marquette in the quarterfinals of the 2015 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship, Saperstein posted a five-match win streak that included wins over Penn, Richmond, Morgan State, Villanova and UMBC.
Saperstein also went 6-6 at No. 2 doubles. She was 2-0 when partnered with Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) and 2-1 with Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North).
The Hoyas completed the 2014-15 campaign with a record of 11-5 overall and a mark of 2-2 in conference play.
