No. 25 Hoyas Open BIG EAST Play Against Providence

Sept. 25, 2015

WASHINGTON - The No. 25 Georgetown University men's soccer squad will host the Providence College Friars (3-1-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) in the BIG EAST Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., at Shaw Field. The Hoyas are currently 4-2-2 on the season.

On Wednesday, GU had big performances from junior forward Alex Muyl (New York, N.Y./Bard) and sophomore midfielder Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) to defeat the No. 11/13 University of Maryland Terrapins, 2-1, at Shaw Field. It marked the final game of non-conference play for the Hoyas.

Sophomore midfielder Matthew Ledder (Falls Church, Va./Gonzaga) earned weekly honors on Monday as he helped Georgetown to a 1-0-1 week against a pair of non-conference opponents. Ledder came off the bench to register four points on the week, with two assists in a 2-2 tie against VCU and the game-winning goal at West Virginia.

Muyl leads the team in scoring with 11 points posting four goals and three assists on the season. Senior forward Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph) has 10 points on three goals and four assists, while Basuljevic rounds out the top three with eight points on three goals and two assists for the year. Freshman JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) has been impressive in the net with 32 saves to his credit over eight games.

Georgetown is currently unbeaten in its last five games.

The Friars head into this weekend with a 4-2-1 record after a victory at Northeastern this past weekend. Mac Steeves registered the first goal of the game in the 38th minute and in the 79th minute, the Friars found the back of the net again to give themselves a 2-0 lead. With 10 seconds remaining in the game, Northeastern managed to get on the board to make the score 2-1. For his assist on Steeves' goal, Brendan Constantine was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. Constantine has two assists on the season and the recognition marked his second BIG EAST Weekly honor of the season.

The Friars are coming off an appearance in the 2014 College Cup.

The Hoyas are 13-13-12 all-time against Providence with a mark of 6-8 at home. Last season, the Friars won at Shaw Field with a 2-0 decision. The game was rescheduled to the following day due to inclement weather. The last Hoya victory was a 1-0 win in Rhode Island during the 2013 season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., at Shaw Field. Live stats will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.

The game will be broadcast for free on the BIG EAST Digital Network featuring Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action. To watch, download the FOX Sports GO app for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire tablets and phones and select Windows devices to view BIG EAST Digital Network games on-the-go.
