Georgetown Sailing Wins the 2016 Rose Bowl Regatta

Jan. 6, 2016

WASHINGTON - For the third-straight year the Georgetown University sailing team won the Rose Bowl Regatta. Now in its 31st year, the Rose Bowl Regatta is one of the largest collegiate sailing events in the country featuring 30 teams. The event is also held at the same time as the high school Rose Bowl Regatta, featuring more than 60 high school teams competing.

The regatta is run off of Belmont Pier in Long Beach, Calif., and is run by the US Sailing Center in Long Beach. This year the Hoyas fielded a team of four freshmen in an effort to keep their winning streak alive.

In the A division skipper Campbell D'Eliscu (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) and crew Rebecca Fung (Rye, N.Y./Rye) set the tone for the Hoyas by easily winning the first two races. The duo went on to win four of the first five races en route to a 26-point win in the A division.

In the B division Andy Reiter (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) and Claire Mohun (San Francisco, Calif./Convent of the Sacred Heart) started out with a 14th-place finish in race one but quickly turned things around and never finished out of the top 10 in the next seven races. The duo ended up in second place in the B division.

Overall the Hoyas edged second place College of Charleston by 11 points. The Hoyas will begin their spring 2016 season in February.
