WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's volleyball team dropped the back end of a BIG EAST weekend road trip with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 28-26) loss at DePaul on Saturday night. The Hoyas fall to 5-13 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) led the Hoyas with 12 kills and eight digs, both team highs, while Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) added 11 kills and Liv King (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) chipped in seven.
Defensively, Ashlie Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) recorded four blocks at the net with a pair of them coming as solo rejections. Speech added another three blocks while Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) hauled in seven digs.
The Hoyas put together their best offensive set of the match in the first with a .242 team hitting percentage behind four kills apiece from King and Sinnette. Trailing early, Georgetown rallied back from a 4-1 deficit to even things up at 4-4 and again at 7-7. The Blue Demons (9-7, 3-1 BIG EAST) claimed momentum from that point behind a 6-0 run and held GU at bay the rest of the frame en route to the 25-19 victory.
Another back-and-forth beginning kicked off the second set before a 12-3 run by DePaul gave the hosts a 15-6 lead to force the second and final Hoya timeout of the frame. Georgetown couldn't chip away at the Blue Demon lead down the stretch, eventually falling 25-15 in the stanza.
Both squads battled in the third set from the opening serve to the final point. Despite 11 tied scores and eight lead changes, no team led by more than three points the entire set. Georgetown held set point late in the frame, up 25-24 to force a DePaul timeout, but a strong defensive performance at the net for the Blue Demons shut down the Blue & Gray's bid for a comeback attempt.
Brittany Maxwell tied Sinnette's 12 kills for a match-high while Jasmine King added 11. Colleen Smith and Haley Bueser both tallied double-figure digs, collecting 12 and 10, respectively.
Georgetown returns to the court next weekend as it hosts Providence on Friday and Creighton on Saturday at McDonough Arena. Both matches are set for a 6 p.m. first serve.
