Oct. 11, 2016

NEW YORK CITY - Junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) and sophomore guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) earned unanimous BIG EAST Conference Preseason honors at the league's annual women's basketball media day held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Tuesday. Additionally, the Hoyas were picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll receiving 51 points.

The event was attended by third-year Head Coach Natasha Adair, Adomako, White and senior guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom).

This is Adomako's second unanimous preseason honor. She is a two-time All-BIG EAST honoree after earning second team last year and honorable mention as a freshman. Adomako was also named the 2014-15 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.

Last year, she led the Hoyas in scoring averaging 14.5 ppg and pulled down 6.0 rpg. Adomako also tallied 31 blocks, 31 assists and 24 steals. She led the Blue & Gray in scoring on 13 occasions and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times.

White had a breakout rookie year, earning spots on the BIG EAST second team and the All-Freshman squad. She was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week five times, and also earned two nods to the weekly honor roll.

She tied for team lead in scoring with 14.5 ppg, and pulled in a squad-high 6.1 rpg despite her 5-5 stature. White also led the squad in assists with 123 helpers while tallying a team-best 77 steals. Her 24 3-pointers tied her for team high, and she shot 80 percent (88-for-110) from the charity stripe.

The Blue & Gray was selected to finish fifth in the conference with 51 points.

Georgetown finished the 2016-17 season with a mark of 16-14 in Adair's second season at the helm. The squad went 9-9 in conference play earning the fifth overall seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. GU earned a WNIT bid and fell in a heartbreaking 57-55 loss at Rutgers in the first round of the postseason tournament. The squad lost five seniors, but returns Adomako, White and Woodard. The team also adds four newcomers available this season.

DePaul and Creighton tied for first totaling 75 points and five first-place votes. They were followed in third by Marquette with 62 points. The Golden Eagles edged Villanova with 59 points followed by the Hoyas. St. John's landed in sixth (38 points), followed by Seton Hall (31), Butler (25), Xavier (20) and Providence (14).
