Men's Soccer Hosts DePaul on Saturday

Oct. 14, 2016

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's soccer squad (3-7-1, 1-2-1 BIG EAST) will host the DePaul Blue Demons (6-5-2, 1-3-0 BIG EAST) in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Shaw Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action.

On Monday, senior defender PJ Koscher (Bel Air, Md./Archbishop Curley) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as he helped the team to a draw at Marquette. Koscher scored his first-career goal in a 1-1 draw at MU as he helped the defense limit the Golden Eagles to just a penalty kick goal in a road tie for the Hoyas.

Leading the scoring for the Hoyas is senior forward Brett Campbell (Wallingford, Pa./Haverford School) with six points on three goals, including two game winners, on the season. Junior midfielder Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) is second with four points for the year on two goals, while sophomore defender Brendan McDonough (Matthews, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) is third with a goal and an assist to his credit for three points.

Sophomore goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) has been solid in the net with 48 saves in 10 games, two shutouts and a 1.27 GAA.

DePaul is coming off its first BIG EAST success, a 2-1 victory over Seton Hall last Saturday at Wish Field. Erik Rodriguez was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the second time this season after scoring both goals, including the game winner, in the 89th minute. Simon Megally and Rodriguez lead the team with six goals apiece. Jake Scheper and Philipp Koenigstein have each found the back of the net three times.

The Hoyas are 6-0-1 all-time against the Blue Demons. Last year, Georgetown downed DePaul, 1-0, in Chicago with Basuljevic scoring the game winner. The last meeting at Shaw Field was a 6-0 Hoya victory during the 2013 season.

Saturday is Military Appreciation Day at Shaw Field. There will be a postgame youth clinic for boys and girls ages 7-13, a military humvee for fans to take pictures with and recognitions for military veterans at halftime on field.

Additionally, Georgetown will be honoring donors to the Peter Murphy Memorial Scholarship. Prior to the game there will be a tailgate on the outdoor plaza of the Thompson Athletic Center to celebrate the scholarship, starting at 11:30 a.m. After the game, the group will be in the same spot to celebrate with the squad.

The Murphy Scholarship was founded in 2008 to honor Murphy's tremendous spirit, kindness, and love of Hoya soccer with an annual scholarship given in his name to a deserving Hoya soccer player. Since that time, two scholarship winners, Ian Christianson and Joshua Yaro, have not only boosted the success of the Hoya soccer team, but have moved from the Hilltop to the MLS. This year's recipient, Marcinkowski, continues that tradition with a strong work ethic and talented play that resulted in being named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year for the 2015-16 season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be televised live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action, and live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
