WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (7-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-17) setback to visiting DePaul in BIG EAST action on Friday night. The Hoyas fall to 6-18 overall and 2-9 in league play.

Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) led the Hoyas with 11 kills while Liv King (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) added 10. Ashlie Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) and Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) were both just one kill shy of double-figures with nine each.

Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) posted her 10th double-double of the season with a match-high 42 assists to go with 10 digs. She added six kills and a pair of blocks in the match.

Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) paced the back row with a team-high 11 digs and a match-high three service aces for the Blue & Gray. Speech led the way at the net with five blocks while Sinnette added three.

"We started off super strong and played with great energy, played low error volleyball and executed at an extremely high level," Head Coach Arlisa Williams said after the match. "When we come out with great energy and are communicating well, our level of play increases. We just need to be able to sustain and stay consistent for the entire match."

Georgetown (6-18, 2-9 BIG EAST) put together its most dominant set of the season to start off the match. The Hoyas outhit DePaul .478 to -.138 in the frame and recorded 12 kills with just one attack error. Opening the stanza on a 6-1 run to force a Blue Demon timeout, the Hoyas pushed their lead to 11-2 and 16-4 before closing out the set on a 9-3 run to seal the 25-7 victory.

A back-and-forth second set saw 10 ties and three lead changes throughout most of the frame. Trading points early and often, DePaul (13-11, 7-5 BIG EAST) grabbed the lead at 15-14 before forcing a GU timeout at 19-16. Georgetown would pull within two points down 21-19 and 24-22, but couldn't complete the comeback attempt in the 25-22 setback.

Another hot start by the Hoyas in the third set gave the home team an early 5-1 advantage. The Blue Demons managed to chip away at the GU lead to knot things up at 10-10 but three-straight points from Georgetown forced a DePaul timeout at 13-10. Another three tie scores led to a 15-15 draw before a 6-1 run from DePaul made it a 21-16 score. Not backing down, the Hoyas responded with a 6-1 run of their own to even up the set at 22-22 but DePaul scored the final three points of the stanza for the 25-22 victory.

In the fourth, DePaul jumped out to the early lead behind a 6-1 run to force a Georgetown timeout. The Hoyas would keep pace with the Blue Demons, pulling within four points late at 19-15. Despite the comeback attempt, DePaul scored six of the final eight points to put the match away.

Claire Anderson led DePaul with a match-high 12 kills while Haley Bueser led all players with 17 digs.

Georgetown returns to action on Saturday as it closes out its three-match homestand against visiting Marquette with first serve set for 6 p.m. Live stats and a subscription-based webstream will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
