Georgetown Hosts Villanova on Senior Day

Oct. 28, 2016

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University's men's soccer squad (5-8-2, 2-3-2 BIG EAST) will host the Villanova University Wildcats (9-5-2, 4-2-1 BIG EAST) in GU's final home game of the regular season on Saturday at Shaw Field at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

On Wednesday, GU played to a scoreless tie against Seton Hall in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Owen T. Carroll Field. Georgetown outshot SHU, 16-13, with five chances on goal. The Blue & Gray took eight corner kicks to Seton Hall's three. Sophomore goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) ended the contest with two saves to his credit.

Leading the scoring for the Hoyas is senior forward Brett Campbell (Wallingford, Pa./Haverford School) with eight points on four goals. Senior midfielder Jon Azzinnari (Nutley, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) is second with three goals totaling six points. Junior midfielders Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) are tied for third with five points apiece.

Marcinkowski has been solid in the net with 55 saves in 13 games, four shutouts and a 1.04 goals-against average. Senior goalkeeper Mitchell Auer (Columbus, Ohio/Dunlap [Ill.]) has 15 saves in two contests with a 1.80 GAA.

With wins over Creighton and St. John's at the Higgins Soccer Complex, Villanova has improved to 9-5-2 overall, 4-2-1 in the BIG EAST. The Wildcats are currently tied for second place in a tightly-bunched BIG EAST with 13 points, tied with the Bluejays and Xavier. Junior midfielder Miguel Polley has been especially effective of late, compiling goals in each of the last three games and a total of nine points. The reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week has five goals and seven assists on the season for a team-high 17 points.

Georgetown is 24-11-5 all-time against Villanova with the Blue & Gray winning last year's meeting in Pennsylvania, 2-1. Bakie Goodman (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View School for the Gifted) and Brandon Allen both scored for the Hoyas. The last meeting on the Hilltop was a 1-0 Georgetown victory in 2013.
