Hoyas Fall to Bucknell, 21-7, on Senior Day

Nov. 12, 2016

Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team fell in its final home game of the season, 21-7, to Bucknell University on Saturday evening. The loss, GU's seventh-straight setback, dropped the Hoyas to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in Patriot League Play.

Clay Norris (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) started at quarterback and was 17-of-34 for 157 yards passing and a touchdown. Alex Valles (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) finished with 40 yards rushing while Justin Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) had a team-high seven catches for 57 yards. Jim McLaughlin (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) had career highs of six receptions and 77 receiving yards and a touchdown.

J'V'on Butler (Melbourne, Fla./Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy) led the defense with a game-high 11 tackles, including eight solo takedowns, and also forced a fumble. David Akere (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron) and Hunter Kiselick (Nutley, N.J./Bergen Catholic) each finished with seven tackles, while Kiselick also added three quarterback hurries.

The game was a defensive battle from the beginning as the two teams combined for just seven first downs in the first quarter. The Bison (4-6, 3-2 PL) drove down to the Georgetown 17-yard line on their first drive, but the Hoyas came up with a pair of stops on third and fourth down.

The defense came up with another fourth down stop midway through the second quarter to keep the game scoreless.

Bucknell got on the board first with a 14-yard touchdown run with just 50 seconds left in half, capping an eight-play, 67-yard drive.

An interception gave the Bison the ball in Georgetown territory early in the third quarter. They drove the ball down to the 1-yard line and, after a couple of stops by the GU defense, a 1-yard plunge extended the Bucknell lead to 14-0.

Later in the quarter, following a strong three-and-out by the defense, the Hoyas drove the 55 yards on just three plays to cut the deficit to one score, 14-7, with 5:10 left in the third quarter. After a 29-yard pass to Hill put the ball at the 23-yard line, Norris scrambled to his left and found McLaughlin at the pylon for the score. It was McLaughlin's first-career touchdown.

Georgetown could not mount any more of a comeback and Bucknell used a long drive to take more than six minutes off the clock. The Bison tacked on an insurance touchdown with a 28-yard run to complete the scoring with 2:05 left to play.

The Hoyas will head out on the road for their regular season finale at Colgate. Kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 19, is scheduled for 1 p.m., in Hamilton, N.Y.
