Dec. 9, 2016 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Texas/De La Salle) was one of 20 players named to the roster by U.S. Under-20 Mens' National Team Head Coach Tab Ramos for the team's International Camp set to take place from Dec. 13-20, in San Jose, Costa Rica. During the camp, the U-20 MNT will play two friendlies against the U-20 Costa Rica team at their national training center on Dec. 17 and 19.
The camp will aid in preparation for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, which takes place at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose and the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in Tibas from Feb. 17 ââ'¬" March 5. The CONCACAF Championship serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.
"This will be a great opportunity for our players to get acclimated to Costa Rica and get a sense of what they can expect in February," Ramos said. "The chance to play Costa Rica twice will be a good test for our guys to see where they stand against the host nation, who is playing at a very high level."
This past season, Marcinkowski helped the Hoyas to four shutouts tallying 63 saves and a 1.23 GAA.
As a freshman, Marcinkowski had a breakout rookie year for the Hoyas earning NSCAA Second Team All-Great Lakes Region, First Team All-BIG EAST, as well as BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors. He started all 21 games for the Blue & Gray, and posted a 0.69 GAA on the season totaling 63 saves. He went 16-2-3 in the net and managed nine shutouts.
Marcinkowski already ranks third in single-season shutouts and fifth in program history in career shutouts.
Out of the 20 players on the roster, 17 played in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Of those 17, Marcinkowski has the most years in the Academy, playing five seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes Academy.
Marcinkowski has been a member of the U.S. National Team Pool since 2010. He has earned 25 caps for the U-14 through U-20 national teams with 13 shutouts to his credit. With the National Team, he has won the 2014 International Tournament of Vaclav Jezek in the Czech Republic and the 2013 Niigata International Tournament in Japan.
