Sophomore Christine Schmitt (Pittsford, N.Y./Mercy) took medalist honors and helped lead the Georgetown University women's golf team to a first-place finish at the Navy Spring Tournament, held at the Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.
The Hoyas shot a 34-over par 322 in Sunday's final round, finishing with a 36-hole score of 70-over par 646, one shot ahead of second-place Lehigh (71-over par 647). Bucknell placed third at 85-over par 661 and Navy finished in fourth place at 90-over par 666.
Schmitt was tied for second entering Sunday's final round and carded a 3-over par 75 to finish with a two round score of 10-over par 154. This was the first individual win of her collegiate career.
Freshmen Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]) tied for eighth place at 19-over par 163, shooting a 9-over par 81 in the second round. Classmate Melissa Leo (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) finished in 10th place at 20-over par 164 and junior Jenny Xiao (Foshan, China) tied for 11th place at 21-over par 165. Junior Kelly Hwang (Moorestown, N.J./IMG Academy) placed 25th overall.
