Georgetown Finishes in Second at Hoya Invitational

Led by sophomore Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School), the Georgetown University women's golf team finished in second place among 10 teams at the 11th Annual Hoya Invitational, held at Four Streams.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament went off on time at 9 a.m., but under cold and windy conditions for the golfers.

Princeton shot a 31-over par 319 in the final round and topped the 10-team field, finishing in first place with a three-round total of 75-over par 939.

Georgetown shot a 40-over par 328 in the final round to finish second at 88-over par 952. Seton Hall placed third (100-over par 964), with Towson fourth (103-over par 967) and St. John's was fifth (106-over par 970).

Anna Kim from St. John's, who fired a 3-under par 69 in the second round, posted a 2-over par 74 in Tuesday's final round and took medalist honors for the second-straight year. She cruised to the individual title, finishing at 7-over par 223, 10 strokes ahead of her nearest competitor.

Eleey was that nearest competitor, trying for second place with a pair of Princeton golfers, Hana Ku and Alexandra Wong, at 17-over par 233. Eleey finished with a 7-over par 79 on Tuesday after carding scores of 5-over par 77 in both rounds on Monday.

Georgetown freshman Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's), who was in the individual lead after the first round with a 2-over par 73, finished in fifth place at 19-over par 235. She was at 8-over par 80 on Tuesday.

Senior Mackenzie Boydston (Keller, Texas/Nolan Catholic) finished in a tie for 15th place at 26-over par 242 after finishing with a 13-over par 85 in the final round.

Senior Patricia Lee (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) placed 22nd overall at 29-over par 245, including a 12-over par 84 in the third round, and sophomore Christine Schmitt (Pittsford, N.Y./Mercy) finished in 30th place at 37-over par 253.

The Hoyas also had a "B" team competing and they finished in 10th place at 190-over par 1,054.

Junior Jenny Xiao (Foshan, China) shot a 14-over par 86 on Tuesday and tied for 31st place at 38-over par 254 to lead the squad. Freshman Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]) finished in a tie for 39th place at 42-over par 258, while junior Kelly Hwang (Moorestown, N.J./IMG Academy) placed 43rd at 47-over par 263 and freshman Melissa Leo (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) finished in 52nd place at 63-over par 279.

Georgetown plays next on Saturday, April 9 in an 18-hole match at Navy.
