WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's golf team is tied for the lead after the first round of play at the Navy Spring Tournament, being held at the Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.
The Hoyas shot a 36-over par 324 and are tied for the team lead with Lehigh. Host Navy is third at 42-over par 330, while Bucknell is in fourth place t 44-over par 332.
Teams were slated to tee off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, but the tournament did not start until after noon due to cold, windy weather in the area.
Sophomore Christine Schmitt (Pittsford, N.Y./Mercy) leads Georgetown, standing in a tie for second place at 5-over par 77 alongside two players from Lehigh. They are two shots off the pace of Navy's Christine Walker, who leads the field at 5-over par 77.
Junior Jenny Xiao (Foshan, China) is in sixth place at 9-over par 81, while freshmen Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]) and Melissa Leo (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) are tied for seventh place at 10-over par 82. Junior Kelly Hwang (Moorestown, N.J./IMG Academy) is in 25th place.
Final round play will be held on Sunday, April 10.
