May 13, 2016 WASHINGTON -
Following a winning season for the Georgetown University women's tennis team, senior Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) and freshman Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) were named All-BIG EAST. Awards were announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon. Their selection is the first time Georgetown had two players earn All-BIG EAST honors under Head Coach Gordie Ernst. Overall, 12 women representing seven schools were named All-BIG EAST.
Repeating the All-BIG EAST selection for the third straight year, Saperstein registered a 9-5 singles record at the No.1 singles spot in the 2016 spring season. Throughout the spring campaign, Saperstein saw wins against Penn's top singles player, Ria Vadya, to clinch a 4-3 victory for the Hoyas. The veteran defeated No. 39 William & Mary's Elizaveta Nemchinov and Loyola Marymount's (LMU) Jessica Perez at the top flight. She also posted an 11-4 doubles record paired with Nakagawa at the No. 1 spot.
Playing primarily at the No. 2 slot, Nakagawa posted a 13-3 singles record this spring while going 11-4 in doubles action at the No. 1 spot. The newcomer saw victories against St. John's, LMU, UC Irvine, Seton Hall, Richmond and George Washington while also capturing six of her last seven singles matches. She was recently awarded the team's Coaches Award for her breakout rookie season and dedication to the program.
The Georgetown women's team concluded the season 13-5 overall and posted win streaks of two, five and six. The 13-5 campaign boasts the most wins since 2013 when the Hoyas captured 15 wins.
