May 4, 2016 WASHINGTON - Senior Nevin Snow (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) was named the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Sailor of the Year for the second-consecutive year, as announced on Monday. The announcement comes the week after classmate Mary Kate Mezzetti (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable) was named the MAISA Women's Sailor of the Year. Including Snow, five Hoyas were named to the All-MAISA Coed Team with two skippers named to the first team and three named All-MAISA as crews.
This is Snow's second-consecutive honor as the MAISA Sailor of the Year.
A three-time all American and 2015 College Sailor of the Year, Snow had another fantastic season. He won 12 regattas this year including the conference Match Race, singlehanded and team racing championships. Snow was also the unanimous selection as the Conference Sailor of the Year for the third year in a row.
Snow was named to the All-MAISA First Team (Coed Skippers) along with fellow senior Sean Golden (Duxbury, Mass./Tabor Academy). This is Golden's first appearance on the first team as he earned second team honors during the 2015 season.
A trio of Hoyas were named All-MAISA Crews in senior Isabelle Luzuriaga (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall), sophomore Meaghan MacRae (Melrose, Mass./Tabor Academy) and senior Bettina Redway (Providence, R.I./St. George's).
Macrae was one of only two sophomores to make the list. She sailed primarily with Snow and had a tremendous record, winning her division at a number of events, including the Fall Conference Championship and the Atlantic Coast Championship
This is the second time Luzuriaga was selected to the all-conference team. She sailed primarily with Golden and the two had a great fall, winning the St Mary's Interconference Regatta and the Truxton Umsted Regatta. Luzuriaga also sailed on the team race team that won five events, including the Conference Championship.
Redway, who sails on the women's with MaryKate Mezzetti and on the conference championship team race team with AJ Reiter, earns all-conference honors for the second time.
Golden was one of five skippers selected to the first team. He won the A division at the St Mary's interconference and B Division at the Truxton Umsted regatta. He teamed with crew Isabelle Luzuriaga to win five team race regattas as well as the conference championship.
With last week's honors, the Hoyas total eight All-MAISA nods as well as claiming both the men's and women's sailor of the year accolades.
