The Georgetown University women's golf team has three players among the top 10 overall and the Hoyas are in third place among 11 teams after the first day of play at the William & Mary Invitational. The tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,043-yard River Course at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.

Richmond leads the field with a 36-hole score of 23-over par 599, with Seton Hall four shots back (27-over par 603) and the Hoyas are five shots back at 28-over par 604. UNCG is fourth at 33-over par 609 and UNC Wilmington is fifth at 38-over par 614.

The Hoyas were in the lead after a first round score of 13-over par 301 and shot a 15-over par 303 in the second round, but Richmond and Seton Hall each posted scores of 7-over par 295 to jump ahead.

Freshman Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake Senior) and sophomore Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J./Kent Place) lead the Hoyas, posting scores of 6-over par 150 and tying for sixth place in the field of 63. Fitzgibbons posted scores of 5-over par 77 and 1-over par 73, respectively, while Parsells came out with a 1-over par 73 in the opening round.

Sophomore Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) is one shot back, tied for 10th place at 7-over par 151, including a 2-over par 74 in the first round.

Junior Christine Schmitt (Pittsford, N.Y./Mercy) and junior Lauren Gros (Windermere, Fla./Windermere Prep) are tied for 19th place with scores of 10-over par 154. Schmitt posted consecutive rounds of 5-over par 77, while Gros posted a 4-over par 76 in the second round.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]) is tied for 45th place at 16-over par 160.

The final round of play will be held on Monday, Sept. 12.
