Fitzgibbons in 12th Place at Lady Paladin Invitational

The Georgetown University women's golf team posted a 13-over par 301 on Friday and stand in 13th place among 20 teams after the first round of play at the 44th Lady Paladin Invitational. The tournament is hosted at the par-72, 6,313-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

Host Furman fired a tournament record 7-under par 281 to take the team lead, one shot ahead of Middle Tennessee (6-under par 282). Texas (5-under par 283) is third, with Illinois (2-under par 286) and Missouri (1-under par 287) rounding out the top-five teams.

The Hoyas are in 13th place, one shot behind Augusta University and two shots behind Tulsa, in 11th place at 11-over par 299.

Freshman Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake Senior) is Georgetown's leader after the first round, standing in a tie for 12th place at 1-under par 71.

Sophomore Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]) is tied for 30th place at 1-over par 73.

Sophomore Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) posted a 6-over par 78 and is tied for 80th place, while junior Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School) carded a 7-over par 79 and is tied for 90th place. Sophomore Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J./Kent Place) shot an 8-over par 80 and is tied for 93rd place.

The tournament continues on Saturday, Sept. 24.
