Hoyas Set for Road Test at Villanova

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University volleyball team (4-10, 0-1 BIG EAST) will head on the road this weekend for a match at Villanova University. The Hoyas and Wildcats will meet on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in Villanova's Jake Nevin Field House.

The Hoyas are coming off of a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22) loss to St. John's University on Tuesday, despite a match-high 22 kills from Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson). Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) was also in double figures in kills, joining Sinnette with 12 while also adding five blocks and two service aces. Meghan Richard (Firestone, Colo./Niwot/Seattle) doubled her career high with six kills. Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) filled the stat sheet with 42 assists, five kills, five digs, three blocks and two aces. Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) topped the defense with a match-high 22 digs.

Speech was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for her play over the weekend. The sophomore was named to the Denver Invitational All-Tournament Team after registering 36 kills, including a career-high 20 against Southern Utah, and a .508 hitting percentage in the two matches on Saturday. In all, Speech averaged 3.93 kills per set, a .484 hitting percentage and totaled 11 blocks in GU's four matches in Colorado.

For the season, Sinnette leads the GU offense with an average of 3.65 kills per set and Speech is right behind her with 3.06. McKnight is averaging 10.19 assists and is second on the team with 2.72 digs per set. She has been a double-double machine this year, registering seven in the team's first 14 matches. Higareda tops the defense with 4.55 digs per set and also leads the way with 13 service aces. Caitlin Brauneis (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) is second on the squad with 12 aces. Speech leads the frontcourt with 42 total blocks.

Villanova enters Saturday's matchup with a 10-4 overall record and a 1-0 mark in BIG EAST play after a straight-set victory over Seton Hall on Tuesday. The Wildcats have won seven of their past eight matches and have only dropped one set in those seven wins. The offense is led by Allie Loitz who is averaging 3.89 kills per set and has a team-high 19 service aces, while Emma Decker has a 11.65 assists per set average. Emily Davine and Regan Lough are both leading the defense with 3.50 and 3.17 digs per set, respectively.

Following Saturday's match, the Hoyas will play another midweek match, hosting Seton Hall University on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. Due to an event on campus, the match has been moved to the University of District Columbia (UDC).
