WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Friday, falling to Florida Atlantic University, 3-1 (28-26, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22), and Western Carolina University, 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-15). Both matches were played at the University of South Florida's Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida as part of the Stetson/USF Invitational.
FAU 3, Georgetown 1
Despite a career-high 27 kills from Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson), GU lost a hard-fought match to the Owls.
Sinnette was the only Hoya in double figures in kills. Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) finished with eight kills, a .368 hitting percentage and three total blocks, including two solo blocks. Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) recorded a double-double with 38 assists and 18 digs while Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) led the defense with 20 digs. Caitlin Brauneis (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) had two of Georgetown's four service aces.
The Hoyas had eight total blocks for the match as Ashlie Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) had three blocks to match Speech, finishing with one solo block and two block assists. Sinnette and Liv King (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) each contributed with two total blocks.
WCU 3, Georgetown 0
GU again only had one player in double figures and could not overcome a poor hitting percentage in a three-set loss to the Catamounts.
Williams was the lone Hoya in double figures, finishing with 10 kills and a .381 hitting percentage. King had eight kills and Sinnette chipped in six. McKnight recorded her second double-double of the day with 25 assists and 10 digs while also adding two service aces. Higareda again was atop the defense, leading all players in the match with 22 digs.
