Sept. 30, 2016 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer squad (3-6-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., on Saturday for a 7 p.m. matchup against the No. 7/9 Butler University Bulldogs (7-1-1, 2-0-0 BIG EAST) at the Butler Bowl. The contest will be broadcast live on www.GUHoyas.com.
On Tuesday, Georgetown found its offense with a 3-1 victory over the American University Eagles at Shaw Field in a local nonconference clash. The Hoyas scored multiple goals in a contest for the first time this season.
After going down a goal in the eighth minute, senior forward Brett Campbell (Wallingford, Pa./The Haverford School) scored the equalizer, which would stand going into the break. In the second half, the first-career goal of senior midfielder Jon Azzinnari (Nutley, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) proved to be the game winner, and junior midfielder Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, Mahopac) added an insurance goal in the 66th minute making the final 3-1.
Leading the scoring for the Hoyas is Campbell with six points on three goals, including two game winners, on the season. Freshman forward Achara (Enugu, Nigeria/Berkshire School [Mass.]), Azzinnari and Basuljevic are tied for second with two points for the year along with junior midfielder Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) who has two assists for two points on the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) has been solid in the net with 41 saves in eight games, two shutouts and a 1.00 GAA. Senior Mitchell Auer took the win against American with six saves in the game.
Butler is one of three teams with a perfect 2-0 record in early BIG EAST play. On Wednesday, Butler suffered its first loss of the season falling, 3-2, to No. 6/16 Indiana in overtime. Butler went up 2-0 in the 62nd minute before IU scored goals in the 75th and 80th minutes to tie the match. In the 97th minute, the Hoosiers scored to get the 3-2 win.
Georgetown is 3-0 all-time against the Bulldogs with all three contests coming in conference play. Georgetown is 1-0 on the road with a 2-0 victory in Indianapolis during the 2014 season. Last year, the Hoyas won, 2-0, at Shaw Field as Brandon Allen and Cole Seiler both scored for the Blue & Gray.
