Georgetown Hosts UConn on Saturday at Shaw Field

Sept. 9, 2016

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer squad (0-4-0) will host the University of Connecticut Huskies (3-1-0) on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., at Shaw Field. The contest will be broadcast live on GUHoyas.com with Dan Helfrich and Nick Van Hollen calling the action. Fans will also have the opportunity to answer the age-old question if a hot dog is in fact a sandwich.

The squad had another late goal seal their fate as the squad fell, 1-0, to the Virginia Tech Hokies on Monday afternoon at Shaw Field in the team's home opener. The Hoyas controlled much of the possession, but couldn't get the ball in the net. The Hoyas have looked solid, but late goals have been the difference this season.

Leading the scoring for the Hoyas is freshman forward Achara (Enugu, Nigeria/Berkshire School [Mass.]) who scored the first goal of the season against Maryland as well as his first intercollegiate tally. Freshman forward Davey Mason (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and junior midfielder Matt Ledder (Falls Church, Va./Gonzaga) assisted on Achara's goal and have one point apiece on the season, respectively.

Marcinkowski has been huge in the net with 24 saves in three games and a 1.25 GAA.

UConn is coming off a 2-0 victory over Cornell on Monday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Nick Zuniga and Andrew Geres tallied their first goals of the season in the second half as the Husky defense recorded its second shutout of the season. Saturday marks the Huskies' first road contest of the young season.

This is the 27th meeting between the teams. The Hoyas are 9-14-3 all-time against the Huskies. The last meeting was a 2-1 loss at home in 2012. Georgetown are 7-4-1 all-time at home against the Huskies.

The Celebration of the Hot Dog...Sandwich? promotion will feature some exciting events for fans to enjoy. All fans who come to the game dressed in a hot dog sandwich costume will receive free admission. Also, any fans named Oscar, Meyer, Frank or Nathan will also be let into the game for free. A debate area will be set up outside of the game for fans who believe that hot dogs are not sandwiches. At halftime, some lucky fans will participate in a hot dog sandwich catching competition, with the sandwiches being launched out of a t-shirt cannon. As an added bonus, there will be an attempt to set the record for the most people in hot dog sandwich costumes.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats and a webcast featuring Dan Helfrich and Nick Van Hollen will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
