WASHINGTON - Georgetown dropped the final game of a four-game homestand at Verizon Center on Monday night, losing a BIG EAST Conference game to Providence, 74-56.

The loss drops Georgetown's record to 10-9 overall and 1-5 in the BIG EAST Conference, while Providence improves to 13-7 overall and 3-4 in league play.

Junior guard L.J. Peak (Gaffney, S.C./Gaffney), who was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, scored 13 points and had six assists to lead the Hoyas, while graduate student guard Rodney Pryor (Evanston, Ill./Notre Dame Prep/Robert Morris) added 12 points.

The Hoyas went into the break trailing by 15 points, 42-27, and Providence outscored GU, 9-2, over the opening 4:11 to take a 51-30 lead on a layup from Kyron Cartwright. GU pulled to within 16 points, 53-37, on a layup from sophomore forward Kaleb Johnson (South Hill, Va./Carlisle School), but that was as close as the Hoyas would get.

Georgetown fell behind by 15 points at the half, 42-27, as the Hoyas struggled from the field, connecting on only 32.1 percent of their shots (9-of-28), including 7.7 percent from 3-point land (1-of-13).

The Blue & Gray pulled to within two points, 12-10, after a pair of Peak free throws with 15:12 to play, but the Friars went on a 15-4 run over five-plus minutes and extended their lead to 27-14 on a layup from Rodney Bullock.

Georgetown responded with a 10-1 run of its own, with Peak scoring seven points, including a layup with 3:39 to play in the half that cut the PC lead to 28-24, forcing a timeout. Providence scored eight points and extended its lead to 36-24 on a layup from Cartwright. The Friars took their biggest lead of the half, 42-26, on a jumper from Maliek White with seven seconds left.

Georgetown is off until Sunday, Jan. 22, traveling to play at Xavier. The game will be shown live on CBS Sports and can be heard locally on 106.7 FM The Fan.
