Jan. 17, 2017

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer midfielder Bakie Goodman (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View School for the Gifted) was selected by the Seattle Sounders with the 56th selection overall of the 2017 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Tuesday. Goodman was the 12th pick of the third round and will join the reigning MLS champions.

Goodman had an impressive career on the Hilltop appearing in 80 games with 71 starts to his credit. The midfielder scored seven goals and tallied 12 assists for 26 points over four years. Three of his goals were game winners, and he served as a team captain his senior year.

As a freshman, Goodman was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie squad, and earned a place on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 14, 2013.

Goodman played an integral role in three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the quarterfinals in 2014, as well as two BIG EAST Regular Season Championships and one tournament championship in 2015.

Goodman graduated in December with a degree in marketing from the McDonough School of Business.

With Goodman's signing, Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese has now had 16 players be drafted or sign with an MLS club in his tenure on the Hilltop. He has had at least one player drafted by an MLS club every year for the past five seasons.
