The Homegrown Player Rule is a program that allows MLS teams to sign local players from their own development academies directly to MLS first team rosters. To place a player on its Homegrown List, players must have resided in that club's home territory and participated in the club's youth development system for at least one year, as well as meeting other unspecified league requirements.
Prior to Georgetown, Basuljevic captained the Red Bulls' U-18 squad and helped the Red Bulls to U-18 and U-16 Development Academy National Championships, as well as a Northeast Pre-Academy Championship and New York State Cup. He has represented the United States at Youth National Team levels through U-20.
This past summer, he was named to the PDL All-League squad after scoring eight goals and providing five assists during the season, leading the Red Bulls U-23's in both statistics.
Basuljevic is the third player in GU program history to sign a Homegrown Contract, joining Brandon Allen and Alex Muyl who signed with the Red Bulls last year. Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese has now had 17 players be drafted or sign with an MLS club in his tenure on the Hilltop.
