Jan. 9, 2017 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (8-6, 0-4 BIG EAST) will close out its three-game road swing on Tuesday evening when the squad takes on the Providence College Friars (9-7, 1-4 BIG EAST) at 7 p.m. at Alumni Hall. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Chris Fama and Charlie Bergeron calling the action.
On Sunday, Georgetown lost an overtime heartbreaker to the Creighton University Bluejays, 70-68, at D.J. Sokol Arena.
Three Hoyas scored in double figures as junior guard DiDi Burton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College Prep) led the way tying her career best with 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds as well as tallying six assists. Junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) scored 18 points with a squad-best eight rebounds, while senior guard Mykia Jones (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) managed 10 points in her first career start.
Georgetown outrebounded Creighton, 46-41, and forced nine Bluejay turnovers on six steals while committing just nine giveaways. GU shot just 43.5 percent from the field (27-of-62), while allowing Creighton 34.8 percent shooting (23-of-66) as well as 11 3-pointers.
The Hoyas were without leading scorer Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) who was out with an illness.
White leads the Hoyas with 15.1 ppg and 5.0 rpg in her sophomore season. She has a team-high 47 steals on the year, which ranks first in the conference and 19th in the country. Her 3.6 spg also lead the league and rank seventh in the nation. Adomako and senior forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) are the other two Hoyas averaging in double figures with 14.9 and 14.1 ppg, respectively. Adomako is pulling in 7.4 rpg to rank second on the squad. Woodard is averaging a team-high 8.3 rpg, and she also has a squad-best 22 blocks on the year.
The Hoyas are shooting 39.2 percent on the season, and hold a +2.6 advantage in rebounding over opponents. The team is also averaging 9.0 steals per game.
Providence fell to Villanova, 64-59, on Sunday at home. For the Friars, it marked their third-consecutive five-point loss and fourth loss in BIG EAST play decided by single-digits. Maddie Jolin finished the game with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and a 6-for-6 performance from the charity stripe. She also contributed a game-high six rebounds along with junior Allegra Botteghi. Yoyo Nogic added 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field for the Friars.
Georgetown is 29-29 all-time against the Friars and 12-16 on the road. The Hoyas won both meetings last season as GU managed a 63-53 victory at McDonough Arena, and an 82-51 win in Rhode Island. Adomako and White combined for 41 points in the game at Alumni Hall, and the two combined for 30 points in the win at home.
