WASHINGTON - The No. 13 Georgetown University men's soccer squad (10-2-1, 4-1-0 BIG EAST) will host the Seton Hall University Pirates on Saturday in a 1 p.m. matchup at Shaw Field. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action.
The Hoyas closed out nonconference play on Tuesday evening with a late 1-0 victory over the No. 3 University of Maryland at Ludwig Field. The victory broke Maryland's 30-game unbeaten streak, which spanned over two seasons.
The game winner came in the 88th minute on a counter attack. Following a Terp shot, the Blue & Gray came roaring back as senior midfielder Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) found freshman midfielder Jacob Montes (Lake Worth, Fla./Beaverton [Ore.]) at the top of the box. Montes' right-footed strike netted his first career goal and gave the Hoyas the 1-0 advantage.
On Monday, two members of the team were named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll. Junior JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) and freshman forward Derek Dodson (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) both earned a spot on the squad after winning player of the week honors last Monday.
Sophomore forward Achara (Enugu, Nigeria/Berkshire School [Mass.]) is leading the way for the Blue & Gray with six goals for 13 points on the season. He is followed by Dodson with five goals and two assists for 12 points on the year. Senior midfielder Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass./The Rivers School) rounds out the top three with two goals and a squad-high five assists for nine points on the year.
In the goal, Marcinkowski has made 41 saves with a 0.68 GAA in 1198:48 minutes played.
The Pirates (5-7-1, 2-3-0 BIG EAST) are looking for their second win over a ranked foe this season when they take on the Hoyas after previously defeating then-No. 25 Creighton on Sept. 30. Andres Arcila ranks fourth in the BIG EAST both in total points (17) and goals (7) on the season. Peyton Elder has started the last three matches in goal and compiled a 2-1-0 record to go along with a 1.33 GAA and .692 save percentage.
The Hoyas are 17-16-3 all-time against the Pirates and 9-7-1 at home. Last year, the Hoyas played to a scoreless tie in double overtime in New Jersey. The last meeting at Shaw Field was a 3-2 overtime victory during the 2015 campaign.
