WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's volleyball team fell on the road at Villanova, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-20), in BIG EAST action on Saturday night. The Hoyas drop to 7-15 overall and 1-9 in league play.
Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) led the Hoyas with a match-high 11 kills while Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) added 10. Olivia King (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) chipped in five kills while Aima Eichie (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon/UC Davis) and Emily Herrington (Gainesville, Fla./St. Francis Catholic) both had four.
Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) paced the offense with 29 assists.
Defensively, Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) led GU with 14 digs while Sinnette chipped in seven.
Villanova (14-7, 7-3 BIG EAST) took an early 4-0 lead in the opening set and never looked back. The Hoyas nearly matched their hosts in kills, 12 for GU and 13 for VU, but the Wildcats outhit the Blue & Gray .440 to .176 in the stanza en route to the 25-17 win.
Georgetown claimed the early momentum in the second set, leading 7-2 early in the frame. The Wildcats would rally back to pull within one, down 11-10, before the Hoyas put together a 4-0 run for a 15-11 lead. Villanova took control from there, outscoring GU 14-4 down the stretch for the 25-19 win.
In the third, Villanova opened the set on a 5-1 run but the Hoyas kept pace and eventually pulled within one, down 11-10. A 7-0 run by the Wildcats seemingly put the frame out of reach, but GU responded once again to make it a two-point deficit, down 22-20. Villanova clamped down, scoring the final three points of the stanza for the 25-20 set victory and the 3-0 match decision.
Allie Loitz led Villanova with 10 kills while Allison Fitzgerald had 20 digs.
Georgetown returns to action with a pair of Midwest contests against Xavier and Butler on October 27 and 29, respectively.
