Box Score

WASHINGTON - The No. 10 Georgetown University men's soccer team fell to the St. John's University Red Storm (8-6-2, 5-2-1 BIG EAST), 1-0, Saturday evening at Belson Stadium. With the loss the Hoyas dropped to 11-3-2 overall and 5-2-1 in BIG EAST play.

"Credit to St. John's in a hard-fought game and congratulations to Coach Masur on his 400th win," said Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese. "It was a tough BIG EAST road game and we're looking forward to getting back home on Wednesday."

The Hoyas had the first look of the game just four minutes on a header off of a corner kick that went wide. The Johnnies answered with a pair of shots that went high. In the 17th minute, a yellow card on St. John's gave senior midfielder Christopher Lema a free kick. He got a good foot on it, but SJU keeper Andrew Withers made the save to keep it scoreless.

Georgetown kept pushing searching for the first goal, but it was the Red Storm that struck first. In the 31st minute, a yellow card gave SJU a free kick and a header sent it back into the box before David Enstrom headed it into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

In the final minute of the half, Lema had another shot saved by Withers as GU went into the break trailing, 1-0.

The Red Storm opened the second half with a barrage of shots forcing Georgetown keeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) to come up with a pair of saves. Georgetown answered with a pair of shots that were both blocked by the defense.

As St. John's sat in to maintain the lead, the Hoyas continued to shoot but could not find the back of the net. The best look of the half came in the 77th minute as senior forward Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass./The Rivers School) hit the crossbar.

That would be the final decent look for the Hoyas who eventually fell, 1-0.

Georgetown outshot St. John's, 15-9, and took five corner kicks to the Johnnies' three. Withers was awarded the win with two saves, while Marcinkowski took the loss notching two stops.

The Hoyas will close out the regular season on Wednesday as the squad hosts Creighton University at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action and live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
